Today in class we started with a Do Now worksheet about Nomadic and Settled people. It had questions about nomadic and settled lifestyles and what the benefits are for each lifestyle. We then had a conversation about domestication and if we would use it when we are talking about humans compared to using it when we are talking about dogs and other things we domesticate.
Next we talked about what we should know about the Agricultural Revolution. We answered this by asking ourselves What was it?, Who? When? Where? How? and What’s the big deal about it? We ended class by watching a video called Guns, Germs, and Steel (embedded below). The video was about our transition from being hunters and gatherers to becoming settlers. To go along with the video we had viewing questions to answer as the video played. I enjoyed watching the video because I liked how it showed a hunters and gathers community in Papua, New Guinea and how it showed how they go about their life without all the technology we have today.
This lesson is important to our learning because it is important to know what happened in the past so we can see how humanity has changed throughout time. This lesson has to do with social studies because this is how we became who we are today by transitioning from hunters and gathers to agrarians and learning how to farm and grow things.
