Today's Google Presentation
Today we started class by reading a children's book called Seven Blind Mice by Ed Young. It was a story about seven mice who all saw one object in different ways. After reading the story, we went over the learning goals (in the presentation) for today. We then moved on to completing a graphic organizer about evaluating sources. We were given historical facts and had to pick which source is more reliable.
To wrap up class, we finished answering the questions and started another activity about decision making. We continued it on 9/16/14.
Why is this lesson important to our learning? This lesson improved our mental capacity to make decisions. We also learned that sometimes people have different opinions and perspectives. We also learned who and what we should trust to get information from.
What does it have to do with social studies? In the process of answering the questions we learned important history facts. Also, in history lots of different people have different perspectives. Because of this, people see things in different ways and have different opinions.
My Commentary on Today's Lesson:
I felt that today’s lesson really improved my skill of deciding where I should get information from and which are most reliable. I can now use this newly improved skill in essays and when reading articles. I will now know what I am reading and if it is what I should be reading. Some words that we learned in class today were (some of them I did not even know!) : Perspective, Bias, Sourcing and Truth.
Homework:
DUE TOMORROW:
1. Find an article, blog, video, etc.
2. Use the SOAPPS-Tone graphic organizer to evaluate whether the source is reliable or not.
3. Post the link to your source AND your analysis to Edmodo (you may either attach a copy of completed SOAPPS-Tone graphic organizer OR type analysis directly into post).
DUE FRIDAY: Nothing
