By Ms. Dordoni
1st day of school! We were greeted by the door by the ever-so-great Ms. Dordoni;) We got to choose our seats and then we had to think about how we chose our seats. Was it to be close to someone? Away from someone? Did I prefer to sit with a group or by myself? So many decisions just to pick a seat!
I enjoyed reading your thoughtful reflections about WHY you chose your seat. It's incredible to see how so many scholars are self-aware and chose seating situations that would help make them successful.
We watched a video about why we study history (embedded in the Prezi below) and I learned a few different reasons that I did not think of before, like connecting the past to current events. How can things that happened 1000s of years ago have anything to do with what happens in the world today?
We need to PAY ATTENTION TO DETAIL in our writing and we will improve as the year goes on. Scholars did a GOOD job explaining why we study history: to understand where we came from, to learn about different cultures, so that we don't repeat past mistakes, etc. In order to do a GREAT job with our writing, we will practice explaining WHY? WHY do we need to understand where we came from? What specifically are the past mistakes that we don't want to repeat?
We explored our class website briefly and learned that we ALL WILL BE BLOGGING! What?!
The links to our syllabus, requirements for blogging, and our blogging schedule are posted on this site under "LINKS".
Homework: We have a few different things...
1. Join the period 6 edmodo group (edmodo link is in the "links" section and join codes are in a table at the very bottom of the syllabus).
2. Complete edmodo discussion assignment (directions in edmodo).
3. If you would like reminders about when things are due, then join REMIND (also click in "links" and the join codes are in the syllabus).
4. Bring in your favorite inspirational quote. It can be from a song, a poem, a book, a person, or wherever else you find words of inspiration. Write the quote on the left side of your journal. On the right side, please explain 2 things:
1) Who said it and what are the circumstances around the quote you chose? What was that person going through or experiencing to say those words? AND 2) What does the quote mean to you? Why is it important enough for you to choose these particular words?
I absolutely loved seeing you all again OR meeting you for the first time. I'm so lucky that we get to work together this hear:) I love school!
Have a marvelous weekend!
