Today we mainly focused on how people see themselves and how they think others see them. We started off with a do-now where we created an addendum. We used a list, web, or another type of organizer to write words that we thought described ourselves. After that, we added how we think others see us. Some things overlapped into both categories and some things were different. It was interesting to see that there can be different perspectives of one person’s identity. We also watched a video about a man named Jesús Colon. He talked about an experience he had in the 1950’s. He was deciding whether he should assist a woman who needed help, and his assumptions about how he might be perceived caused him to make his final decision. You can see the whole video:

About half way through the video, the film was stopped right before he made his decision. One corner of the room was for those of us who didn't think he would help the woman and the corner diagonally across was for those who did think he would. We could also go in between if we weren't sure. We discussed why we stood where we were. Then we finished the video and found out that he did not end up helping the woman and he realized he shouldn’t have made any assumption.
