Upon entering the classroom we took a look at the smartboard to see which table we would be seated at for a new project. The tables were labeled China, Egypt, Indus Valley, and Mesopotamia. When we sat down we started to do our Do Now which was to answer the following question: What are the elements of a civilization? I really didn't know what this question meant so I looked up at the chalkboard and saw some examples for the other classes. Our class period thought of a list of examples for elements of a civilization. Our list included: location/open land, hard workers, cooperation is needed for the civilization to thrive, and specialization of labor.

Next we talked about our project and what it is that we are doing. Each person in your group is going to research one of these regional topics; geography and time period, government, economy, religion, technology and innovation, communication and arts, and social classes classes and gender roles. Then you and your group decided on which topics you would choose. After that we grabbed some books and started to learn about our topic. This lesson is important to our learning because we get to learn about other civilizations and how they were started. This teaches us about the rest of the world.
