Today in class we learned, How to write and annotate a bibliography to support our research. When we first came into the classroom we sat in our groups that we were assigned to yesterday from Ms. Dordoni. The groups we were put into for were for our Early river valley cizillivation project. Then we responded to the Do Now on the smartboard in our double entry journal, the Do Now question was “What is a bibliography and why is it important to include a bibliography in a research report and other written work?”. I said without a bibliography, everyone will plagiarize. I personally feel plagiarism is cheating, and a horrible crime to commit since it is illegal.
After completing and going over the Do Now, we then received a packet, called Annotated Bibliographies. We went over the packet with a powerpoint matching it on the smartboard. The packet showed how to write an Annotated Bibliography for our research project. The packet had definitions, and various examples on how to annotate a bibliographies. (If you lost your packet you can view/download another one here)
We learned the first thing to do in a annotation is Summarize, the second is assess and the last was reflect. We looked at a few examples to learn how to annotate.
In class we are writing an annotated bibliography, You must have at least three books (one must be a textbook) one powerpoint, two websites (one must be edu) and one video. You must sight all electronic sources as well. Be sure to make sure you don't plagiarize!!!
The lesson we did in class today relates to social studies in many ways. Having a Bibliography relates to social studies because historians often have to corroborate many different sources and in order to do this without committing plagiarism, they have to have a bibliography.
Next we all got a chromebook, and logged in to edmodo. When in edmodo we went to our period 5 edmodo group and opened up folders, in the folders, we then went to the early civilization folder, and opened up a document which was labeled, Individual Project Proposal and Rationale with Annotated Bibliography. After opening the document we were asked to follow the directions, that were highlighted in yellow towards the top of the page, after that we were to start working on our annotations, We were working towards getting at least one done by the end of class. (15 minutes)
homework- 10/15/14
