Today we had shortened periods but class started with a do now focusing on the promises we made in the beginning of the year; for the last day of the week of respect. We spent a about the first 15 minutes going around the room, talking about these promises and discussing them. Many people agreed that we were doing very well on debating respectfully on edmodo but we need to work on giving other people chances to speak. I think these is really important because we have to follow these promises to have a great and productive year. Next we were handed a worksheet while we watch a video called ‘Guns, Germs, and Steel’

I thought this video was very interesting because it showed that there are many places on earth and some live so differently from the society we live into today. The big question asked in the video was “Why does the white man have so much cargo and us New Guineans have so little?” We discussed this for a little and came to a conclusion that, there are still places that suffer from racial inequality and tensions. This video also shows some prehistory and the hunter/gatherer societies. We can make connections to this because we have been learning and studying about Neolithic Revolution. Places such as Papua New Guinea help give us an inside of how the hunter/gatherer and agrarian societies may have lived in a much earlier time. This is important to learn about in social studies because studying the way other people live teaches us about different places and cultures from around the world.
