In the beginning of class the last group, Classical Rome, finished up presenting their powerpoint. During their presentation we talked a bit more into depth about “Languages of Love” and about how they are all based off of Latin, which was the language of Rome. I think this is very interesting because even though some languages are so different, they can be brought together by the Latin root of a word. After that, the class and Ms. Dordoni gave them feedback, telling them things they did well and things they could have improved.
Shortly after they finished their presentation we started to review what a socratic seminar is, discussing the purpose, and the background information. I think socratic seminars are very helpful in understanding the text, and getting clarifications on a part(s) of the article that we might not have understood. The class was divided up into four groups so we could discuss the answers to the questions about articles we read in class, “Children found sewing clothes for Walmart, Hanes, and other U.S. & European companies.”, in smaller groups. In my opinion, even though sweatshops provide many jobs for people, I think that they are wrong and dangerous. We stayed in our groups and collectively shared our answers until the end of class.
Homework:
DUE MONDAY: Prepare for the debate on Monday, focusing on the articles given in class “Children found sewing clothes for Walmart, Hanes, and other U.S. & European companies.”
