We started out class by watching a “crash course” video (see below), by John Green, which told about 2000 years of Chinese history. This video is important to our lesson, because we are currently learning about ancient China, and the Great Wall of China. The lesson has to do with social studies because we are debating about whether or not the Great Wall was worth building. We started the debate by dividing into two groups, pro and con. Next, we picked jobs for each person in one of the groups, ie: rebuttals, opening statement, closing statement, etc. At the end of the lesson, we looked at a “Classroom Debates” sheet, which helped us figure out what to do during the debate. I thought the video was quite funny.
