We started class today with a do now asking questions about the history of our world like “About how old is our earth?” We then examined the timeline of earth’s history. We also talked about the lifestyle of early human life on earth such as hunting and agriculture. Also Ian pointed out how a lot of mass extinctions occurred showing on the timeline. Also Sean pointed out how the it wasn't just the meteor that killed the dinosaurs all at once the ashes spread all over shielding the sun making life for dinosaurs almost impossible.
After this lesson we moved in to self reflection. Ms. Dordoni taught us about metacognition which is when someone has understanding of their thought process. Also we learned about what grit is. Grit is when someone finishes something they started and she gave us an example of how her son loves skateboarding and will practice and watch videos on how to do tricks but Ms. Dordoni asks if he puts that kind of time and effort into skateboarding why doesn't he put that kind of effort and time into school work.
metacognition- awareness and understanding of one's own thought processes.
Grit- courage and resolve; strength of character.
This lesson is important to our learning because Ms. Dordoni and Mr. Parke need to collaborate with our other teachers to figure out the best way to help us in our school work.
This has to do with social studies because we need to be able to self asses ourselves honestly to help achieve our goals in life.
